About Creekside Shelties

Again, Welcome and I'm glad you came to visit!  Sit down with a cup of something warm to take away the chill of the season and I'll tell you about Creekside's beginnings.

I, like most people just wanted a sheltie as a family pet.  Shelly, a sweet tri-color girl, was all that and more.  One day there will be a page about her. Anyway, when she was about 6, our family almost lost her and I quickly found out that I couldn't be without a sheltie.  I quickly began my search for another.  Through a series of circumstances, I found one ( Lulu and her breeder, Pam Harmon of Nandina Shelties).  I was introduced to the world of AKC conformation and then performance events.  I joined the Clemson Kennelk Club & the Spartanburg Shetland Sheepdog Club.   I have learned many things and I am very appreciative to all my friends Stonerhaven, Poker HIll, Hartwyn, Keepsake & Goodtime Shelties.  They have helped me so much!  I'm glad you can come and read about Creekside's beautiful shelties, past, present & the future ones to come.

I'm proud of the shelties we have bred and raised here.  I use the AKC breed standard for the sheltie as my guide for insuring a well bred sheltie with correct structure, a stable temperament, with a meltingly sweet expresion!  That is the beautiful outside that matches a heart full of love with a desire to please.  All of that is wrapped up in a beautiful long coat!

Creekside is a small hobby(confirmation) kennel.  All of our shelties, show hopefuls and puppies are our house dogs.  They are "our" pets and as such, they enjoy romps outside (we have no kennel runs), pop corn & movies on the couch with us, walks in the neighborhood, and car trips.  They sleep in their crates at night as I don't want them into mischief while I'm sleeping!  I have between 1 to 3 litters per year max. With teenagers in High School and a husband who works out of the house, even 3 litters a year is too much!

All of our shelties are tested for specific genetic disorders, Von Wildebrands (free bleeder) & MDR1(specific drug class sensitivity) and phenotypic disorders (hip dysplasia, eye defects & thyroid problems).  AKC confirmation breeders have eliminated almost 360 specific problems found in dogs & shelties.  Just like us , dogs have problems (heart, eye, bone, skin & any cancers).  That is the value of keeping records and carefully selecting traits to breed to  It is also why I can assure you that your sheltie from here will be healthy and comes with a 2 year guarantee.  Your job is to provide a proper diet, exercise, grooming & appropriate vet care.  Why only 2 years?  How you provide for your sheltie once they leave here starts to influence your shelties health 2 years after they leave here.

If you are looking for that wonderful family companion, a willing performance/obedience partner or possible show prospect, just contact us with a 'ping' at the sheltie mailbox or just call.  I will be more than happy to talk to you!
